Simple Snowboarding coach Craig Gouweloos took out both the best trick and the Pro mens Win at the Canadian Shield Calgary stop over the past weekend.  Simple Snowboarding team members Mike Rotsaert and Natalie Allport also found themselves on the podium with a 2nd in the Pro Womens for Nat and Mike Joining Craig on the podium for a 3rd place spot.  Craig threw down a Switch back 5 Mute, Backside 900 Stalefish (Taking out best trick), Cab 9 Melon, 5050 Front 3 into the bank, Front blunt 270 out.  Mike threw a Switch back 5, Cork Back 7 Indy, Front 7 Melon, Front Lip Popover, C-wood Shuffle

Now heading into our 5th year of operation in Canada, Simple Snowboarding has announced a full time New Zealand program to add to their already highly successful Canadian coaching programs. We will now have a full Southern-Hemisphere season, home base of operations in Wanaka, New Zealand. (more…)

Tyler and Mikey share the podium at the Bro-Down

Simple Snowboarding’s Tyler Nicholson and Mikey Ciccarelli along with Irish-Russian transplant Seamus O’Connor put on a clinic in Slopestyle riding at the TTR 4 Star Billabong bro-down junior Slopestyle at Snow Park NZ over the last weekend. The three riders born between 1995-1997 threw down big, technical runs that would have come close to a podium position in the mens event.

After falling in the men’s event and barely missing the finals, the three riders destroyed the course and left the crowd in disbelief with their high level of riding skill.

Simple Snowboarding Head Coach Elliot Catton with a smooth underflip 540 in the freeway park at Breckenridge

It has been a long and busy season filled with good times and lots of travel for the Simple squad but we needed to squeeze in one more trip to Colorado to wrap up the season. Just like last year we had a big crew cruising the Breckenridge park all week, this years crew consisted of coaches Sam Marcotte, Elliot Catton, Mike Gotuaco, and along for the ride was coach Craig Goulewoos, also team members Coulton Conway, Mikey Ciccarelli, Thomas Fox, Alex Goacher, Keith Brouillette, Tyler Nicholson and filmer Jacob Barkey. Simple Snowboarding’s reigning Junior National Halfpipe Champion Trevor Niblett solidified his title with the addition of a Canada Winter Games Gold Medal in Halifax, Nova Scotia in front of a packed crowd of spectators on Thursday Feb 24th.

Coulton Conway 1st Place

The YOU LOOK GOOD stop at Mont Tremblant is always a popular one for the Simple crew, and the rest of Ontario for that matter, it was a quick trip but a good one. We drove out Thursday, practiced Friday, competed Saturday, then it’s back home on Sunday. The practice day had beautiful, sunny, calm conditions and felt like the warmest -14 degree day of the year.

The Burton Canadian Open was held at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta from February 1-6, 2011.  The Simple Snowboarding crew came out well represented, with three coaches and seven athlete’s preparing to compete for the week. The crew consisted of coaches Sam Marcotte, Elliot Catton, Mike Gotuaco and team members Trevor Niblett, Mikey Ciccarelli, Tyler Nicholson, Alex Goacher, Keith Brouillette, Mikey Rotsaert and Samm Denena.

Simple Snowboarding Coach Elliot Catton has qualified through to the Slopestyle finals at the 2011 FIS World Championships in Molina, Spain!!

Elliot finished 4th in his heat on a highly windy day that saw the second half of qualifiers postponed. Simple Snowboarding’s Samm Denena will also be riding in the Women’s Slopestyle event that has also been postponed.
